As an independent, not-for-profit organization, L’Alliance New York’s mission is to provide our members and students with engaging French language classes and audacious multi-disciplinary programming that celebrates the diversity of francophone cultures and creativity around the world. L’Alliance New York is internationally known for offering the largest selection of fully-immersive French language courses for students aged one to 101, and for its renowned cultural programming including the annual Bastille Day celebration that takes place on New York's famed Madison Avenue, attracting over 50,000 visitors each year; the Crossing The Line arts and performance festival that engages NYC cultural institutions in bringing dynamic international artists to audiences; Animation First, the biggest animation festival in the U.S; and the Comic Arts Fest, celebrating the intersection of American and francophone comic arts. 

Position Summary
Under the supervision of the VP of Education, the Youth Programs Coordinator oversees the organization, development, and implementation of all Language Center youth programs.
The Coordinator also serves as the primary point of contact — acting as “Camp Director” — for L’Alliance New York’s Summer, Winter, and Spring Camps, leading their pedagogical design, staffing, daily operations, and overall success.

Key Responsibilities

Pedagogy
  • Develop and enrich the youth programs class offerings, based on client’s survey and competition
  • Organize and lead teacher training sessions
  • Evaluate and improve teacher performance through classroom observations and coaching
  • Stay current with the latest methodology, pedagogical resources, and technology for the teaching of French as a foreign language to a young audience
  • Stay current with the official French curricula for primary school instructions as well as teaching French as a foreign language (official curriculum of the French Ministry of Education and European Framework
  • Substitute for a teacher class and conduct placement tests occasionally
Administrative Tasks
  • Schedule classes at the beginning of each session
  • Assign classes to teachers
  • Oversee enrollment in youth programs classes/workshops
  • Assist with the registration/transfer process at the start of each session
  • Ensure that classes run smoothly (supply orders, snacks etc)
  • Hire and train new interns (responsibility assignments)
  • Recruit new students/families at fairs
  • Communicate with parents via email on a regular basis
Seasonal Camp First Point of Contact
  • Serve as Camp Director for L’Alliance New York Summer, Winter, and Spring Camps
  • Design and oversee camp curricula and weekly themes
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise camp staff
  • Manage camp scheduling, logistics, and daily operations
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies and best practices
  • Oversee camp enrollment targets and contribute to revenue growth
  • Serve as primary liaison for camp families
Teachers Management/Human Resources
  • Manage a team of about 30 part-time teachers in the youth programs
  • Advise teachers on pedagogy and available pedagogical resources
  • Identify the training needs of the pedagogical team
  • Recruit, train, and assist new instructors
Business Development
  • Communicate program content and updates to parents and answer inquiries
  • Meet with parents regularly to ensure their satisfaction and re-enrollment
  • Seek out prospective clients and ensure enrollment (fairs, open houses… etc)
  • Foster a positive relationship between students, parents, and instructors
  • Stay current with the class offerings of our competitors for young French learners as well as with their marketing strategies (web content, etc) to establish L’Alliance New York as a leader in the field
  • Participate in the elaboration and implementation of L’Alliance New York cultural programs for kids
  • Collaborate with L’Alliance New York sponsors (kids programs)
  • Nurture partnerships with youth literature and FLE publishers

Experience & Qualifications
  • Native French speaker or equivalent professional proficiency
  • Master’s degree (M1 or M2) in Teaching French as a Foreign Language (FLE) or DAEFLE (Diplôme d’Aptitude à l’Enseignement du Français Langue Étrangère)
  • Official teaching diploma (e.g., Professeur des Écoles or equivalent)
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching French as a Foreign Language to young learners
  • Strong knowledge of the CEFRL (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) and the French Ministry of Education curriculum for preschool
  • Solid understanding of pedagogy related to French language instruction for children ages 1 to 17
  • Experience using educational technologies in foreign language instruction, including Smart Board technology
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to adapt to shifting priorities, maintain attention to detail, and manage time efficiently
