Position Overview

L’Alliance New York is looking for a Full-Time Preschool Assistant Teacher for its Manhattan Preschool; a French immersion program designed for preschoolers (ages 2.5 to 5.5).

The Preschool Assistant Teacher will assist the Preschool Head Teacher.


Responsibilities
  • Assist the lead teacher in implementing the curriculum and preparing materials for lessons, learning centers, and classroom activities.
  • Supervise and engage children during play, circle time, meals, indoor and outdoor activities, and nap times.
  • Ensure the physical safety of children by anticipating and removing hazards, observing children at play and rest, and responding appropriately to injuries.
  • Support children with daily routines, including hygiene (toileting, handwashing, changing), transitions, and fostering autonomy.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment.
  • Help enforce rules, routines, and positive behavior management.
  • Assist in documenting children’s progress for assessments, portfolios, or reports.
  • Communicate with parents as needed, under the guidance of the lead teacher.
  • Replace the lead teacher in their absence, or when they are in a meeting, as required.
  • Respect and uphold the school’s philosophy, policies, and procedures.
  • Support remote or online learning when necessary.

Qualifications
  • Be a French native speaker.
  • Be comfortable in English.
  • High school diploma with some college credits (Bachelor’s degree with some education or early childhood credits preferred) and/or a DOH-approved study plan.
  • Have at least 1 year of comparable experience (French immersion or bilingual program).
  • Service-oriented attitude.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S. for any employer.
  • Ensuring compliance with DOH regulations by completing vaccinations for measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), varicella (chickenpox), pertussis (whooping cough), influenza, and hepatitis B.
