As an independent, not-for-profit organization, L’Alliance New York’s mission is to provide our members and students with engaging French language classes and audacious multi-disciplinary programming that celebrates the diversity of francophone cultures and creativity around the world.
L’Alliance New York is internationally known for offering the largest selection of fully-immersive French language courses for students aged one to 101, and for its renowned cultural programming including the annual Bastille Day celebration that takes place on New York's famed Madison Avenue, attracting over 50,000 visitors each year; the Crossing The Line arts and performance festival that engages NYC cultural institutions in bringing dynamic international artists to audiences; Animation First, the biggest animation festival in the U.S; and the Comic Arts Fest, celebrating the intersection of American and francophone comic arts.

The Montclair Campus of L’Alliance New York offers French language classes for all ages, from toddlers to adults, and for all levels, from complete beginners to expert and native French speakers, along with a vibrant range of cultural and community programs. In September 2024, the campus expanded to include the second location of L’Alliance Preschool, a 100% French immersion program fully licensed by the State of New Jersey.
Position Overview
L’Alliance New York’s Montclair Campus is seeking enthusiastic teachers to teach French to children, teens, and adults. Classes for younger learners include both French as a foreign language and programs designed for native speakers. Teachers are responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing engaging lessons, bringing patience, creativity, and care to the classroom.
The Montclair Campus offers language programs for toddlers (ages 1–5), children (5–11), teens (11–18), and adults, from beginner to advanced levels, with dedicated pathways for native French-speaking children. Learn more at lallianceny.org/montclair.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement comprehensive teaching plans in French language and culture for learners of all ages and levels, including both French as a foreign language and programs for native French speakers.
- Use a variety of engaging activities and instructional methods tailored to each audience to support learning and build students’ confidence and abilities.
- Foster a positive classroom environment by guiding student interactions and encouraging cooperation and sharing.
- Assess students’ performance and progress regularly to ensure skill development and achievement.
- Prepare and organize instructional materials and resources.
- Collaborate with administrative staff to support program operations.
- Follow and uphold L’Alliance New York’s teaching standards.
- Contribute to the development and organization of educational, cultural, and social activities that strengthen the Montclair Campus community.
- Participate in development and collaboration for events, within and outside of L’Alliance New York, to attract new students and members.
- Participate in outreach and collaborative initiatives, within and beyond L’Alliance New York, to support student enrollment and community engagement.
- Teach French classes in person Tuesday through Saturday.
- Teaching hours can be scheduled Tuesday through Friday between 9:45am and 5:45pm, or between 1:15pm and 9:15pm, and Saturday between 8:45am and 4:45pm. Teaching schedules can change from session to session.

- Strong understanding of French and Francophone cultures.
- Creative and artistic teaching abilities; experience in performing or visual arts is a plus.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and classroom management skills.
- Patience, flexibility, and the ability to adapt to diverse learning styles.
- Commitment to staying up to date with trends and best practices in language education.
- Master’s degree in teaching French as a foreign language, or relevant bachelor’s degree/certificate (e.g., Licence FLE, DAEFLE, or equivalent).
- Must hold valid U.S. work authorization (L’Alliance New York does not sponsor visas for teaching positions).
